“There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, saying where is the promise of his coming for since the fathers fell asleep all things continue as they were from the creation?”2 Peter3:3-4(KJV)
We often hear these words and they are so familiar to our ears that we are indifferent to the fact they are the fulfillment of prophecy. We too at times feel that we have been here for so long that our love has grown cold. Jesus, our Master and Exemplar, says concerning the last days in which we are now living, “And because iniquity abound, the love of many shall wax cold” (Matthew 24:12). The Devil is doing all he can, in the battle against the loving Creator and all His creatures that remain faithful to His law and take a stand for their Creator and Redeemer with steady faith and reverence, to make us familiar with sin so that its appearance of sinfulness decreases to a certain degree and we feel no need to take an urgent action to fearlessly reprove sin by the way we live and in all our discourses.
Our supreme love to God along with unselfish love to our fellow men is diluted with love for the world (1John 2:15-17). Hence the apostle James says, ”Love for world is enemnity with God”(James 4:4). And surely if our love for the Father dies, the love for the world becomes our first priority, self is exalted above the law of God, we shall be lost. Indeed “he that endures to the end shall be saved”(Matthew 24:13). It is him that “deny himself and take up his cross daily and follows” the Great Exemplar that Jesus will home soon when He returns (Luke 9:23). Each second and moment passing is bringing His day closer than ever was with signs of the times rapidly being fulfilled.
There are frequent wars, nations are rising against nations, kingdoms against kingdoms, and millions are perishing due to famines and pestilence while natural disasters and earthquakes are prevailing in diver places and more frequent. (Matthew 24:6-7). There has been the great earthquake of Lisbon, the sun has been darkened, the moon turned into blood, and the stars of heaven have fallen, all showing the nearness of the Second Coming of Jesus (Revelation 6:12-13). Moreover, the moral standards are lowered daily while spiritualism and occult is taking progress into its climax (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
But are we, personally, prepared to stand in the last crisis before us and ready for the heavenly kingdom? Peter, the apostle of the Lord, says,”Seeing then that all these things (which are corrupted by the defiling sin) shall be dissolved, what manner of persons of ought you to be in all conduct and godliness, looking and hasting unto the coming of the Lord wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?”(2 Peter 3:11-12). When Jesus returns for His chosen few, He did not want any person to perish but for all to come to repentance and be practically clothed with the garments of righteousness as they daily strive to be like Him through the justification and sanctification in Jesus. (2 Peter 3:9, Ezekiel 18:32). He individually loves each of His creatures as though they are the only people living on the earth but we each have individual work to put away sin and perfect the character of Christ by the grace of God. Jesus wants to purify the world from sin and provide the safe home for all that are faithful to Him because sin corrupted the perfect world that God created in love for His children. He gives individuals time to recognize His love and rightful claims over them and strength to overcome their sins. But as we cling to sin, we shall be destroyed.
Before Christ returns our characters must be transformed. “Be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2). “The world passeth away and the lust thereof, but he that does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:17)
Here is one of the verses that describe what we ought to be as we await the Second Coming Of Jesus [True Adventism]. It says,
“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared unto all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness(Isaiah 55:8-9) and worldly lusts (1 John 2:15-17), we should live soberly, righteously and godly, in this present world, looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a perculiar people (2 Peter 2:9-10), zealous of good works (2 Timothy 3:16-17).”-Titus 2:11-14
The Word of God is given by “inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be perfect, and thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
